Hi, I’m Jeff Quessenberry, a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and Life Coach. I specialize in working with individuals, couples, and families with a special emphasis on working with relational and communication issues. My goal is not only to rewire your way of thinking to help you live a happier and more successful life but also to rewire the way counseling is done. My philosophy is to question the process, to take a look at traditional counseling and coaching and see what we can adapt and change to make it more effective and to make you more comfortable. Over the years I have seen that anyone and everyone has the ability to grow and to bring themselves and their relationships to a place of health and connection. The only things that are needed are a dedication to the process and a willingness to take an honest look at yourself.
I specialize in working with adults, couples and adolescents struggling with a variety of concerns including anxiety, depression, relational conflict, bipolar and identity issues.
I bring a narrative-focused approach to counseling in order to take a look at the narrative or “stories” we tell ourselves about ourselves and the world and to rework those narratives that are harmful to us.
Most times I give “homework” to clients to complete during the time between session; but don’t worry it is nothing too intense and often has to do with practicing or exploring what we talked about within the sessions.
My role in the therapy process is not that of an expert who knows everything. You are the expert on yourself; you have a lifetime of experience with yourself while I have just met you. This does not mean I have nothing to offer but my role is not one of prescribing but instead of seeing things that have gone unnoticed or making connections about events and experiences in your life from that third party outside perspective.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
I earned my Master's Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Touro University. I began my career at Desert Mountain Children’s Center serving as a counselor for school age children of all ages. After serving there, I transitioned into counseling with a wider population of adults, couples and families as well.
I enjoy spending time with my wife and two young boys. We like to be outside and my three year old leads us on “safaris” in the woods looking for elephants and lions. I also enjoy reading, playing with my virtual reality headset, rock climbing and traveling.
