Cathy Young, LMSW, LIcensed Masters Social Worker

Hi, I’m Cathy Young, a Licensed Master Social Worker. I have experience in treating trauma, anxiety, depression and multiple life stressors.  I look forward to helping you develop your personal goals toward growth and movement in life.

COUNSELING APPROACH

I have always held the belief that everyone is on their separate journey and each path is different.  Together, we can determine from my range of therapy styles which approach is best to meet your needs.  I utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Solution Focused Therapy, and Narrative Therapy to address a range of struggles that clients may identify in their lives.

I consider it an honor to be a part of someone’s healing and growth to continue their own person journey in life.  I have a passion for working with people and welcome the opportunity to work with someone struggling with trauma, anxiety, grief or life transitions.  My goal is for us to discover the best approach for you and work together with you so that you can have positive forward movement.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

I graduated from Grand Valley State University with a Master’s Degree in Social Work.  During my college career, I worked with adolescents, providing case management and therapy at a local agency.  After graduating, I began my career working as a Family Worker working with families that had been referred from Child Protective Services or Foster Care.  In that program, teaching parenting skills and connecting families to local resources was the main component.  I then worked as Family Advocate at Head Start, advocating for the children, families and teaching staff.  I have also served as a Case Manager and Therapist for adults with severe and persistent mental illnesses, working in crisis mental health.  Being on an interdisciplinary team, I learned much about people and my own perspective on life.  Every person has the ability to be involved in their own healing process and recovery.

In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my family, reading, photography, writing and anything in nature.  I am beginning to travel a bit more and love learning more about the state of Michigan.  I do my best to encourage self-care to my clients and have people around me to remind me to do the same.
